Blackfooted
Penguin Facts
Blackfooted penguins live in cold ocean water near South Africa. Using their
wings as flippers and their feet as rudders, they "fly" through the water
fast enough to chase anchovy and other small fishes to eat.
To keep warm in the cold water, blackfooted penguins have a layer of packed
feathers over a soft layer of down. On land, they can get too hot in the
sun. To keep they pant.
Blackfooted penguin adults are 26.5 inches tall.
Penguins make good parents. They have the same mate for life. Both parents
take turns warming the eggs and feeding and protecting their chicks.
Wild penguins have to eat every day.
The Blackfooted penguin's main predator or problem is people who make pollution.
